Yale Lake Residence
This lakeside retreat for a small family was designed to be respectful of the site and take advantage of the beautiful setting. The program called for a small painting studio and library for a large book collection with a strong connection to the outdoor area immediately surrounding the house. The house is long and thin to allow for a maximum amount of natural light to flood all the spaces from both sides. Natural stone and wood found in the area of the lake are used for the exterior materials to further connect the house to place. The design of the roof is meant to maximize southern sun throughout the winter and to heat the interior spaces, utilizing thick stone walls to provide a heat sink to help warm the house during cold nights.
